Jamming
2021
In 2020 I was invited to make a new series of work to be shown at the gallery space Jam Factory in Adelaide. The space is called Jam Factory because it used to be an old jam factory.
Playing with the idea of ‘jam’ as my starting point, for the exhibition I created a series of seven new life-size ceramic sculptures. The series consisted of a jam jar, a jam donut, a packet of Jam Fancies, a jam swiss roll, a Pearl Jam CD, a Space Jam VHS and a pair of jim jams.
What initially began as wordplay became something more meaningful the longer I worked on it. Made during the pandemic, a challenging time for many, this work was inspired by nostelgia and notions of self preservation, and some of my favourite sources of comfort- Comfort food. Comfort viewing. Comfort Listening. Comfort Wear.
This series was shown in the group exhibition Pop Mart, curated by Becca Freezer and open from February 25 to April 25 2021 at Jam Factory.
